I’ve started more habits than I can count, and quit most of them within a couple of weeks. For a long time I figured that meant I lacked discipline. Turns out I was just following bad advice, the “21 days and you’re set” kind of advice that sounds great in a headline and falls apart the moment life gets busy.

I used to think discipline was a personality trait. Something you either had or didn’t. Turns out it’s just a stack of boring, repeatable actions that nobody wants to hear about because they don’t sound impressive at a dinner party.
